Elementor and Thrive Architect are two of the most popular WordPress visual page builders. Most people including myself use them to make full websites, landing pages and even compiling a well designed blog post.
But recent WordPress 5.0 ushered in a new WordPress editor, called Gutenberg.
Even though though, one of the founders of Thrive Themes, Shane, said that it is not good enough to complete with even the free WordPress page builders available in the WordPress directory. You can watch the video by Clicking here.
But in my point of view, Gutenberg is indeed affecting both Thrive Architect and Elementor.
Problems with the Previous Classic Editor
Before Gutenberg even came out, most people were already mad. The
But by the time Gutenberg was released, most of the page builder plugins integrated themselves with it.
Even though Gutenberg is not at all good enough as Elementor or Thrive Architect. But it is much better than the previous classic editor.
With the classic editor, we had to install a separate plugin just to get columns. That too with a bunch of shortcodes!
Also, embedding custom HTML codes was an epic pain! I had to repeatedly switch between the visual and the text editor.
Also there are many new features such as background colors of paragraphs, gallery block, custom HTML block etc.
How Gutenberg is Affecting the popular page builders
We mainly use WordPress for blogging. Each blog post is simply information, it contains mainly quite a lot of texts and images.
Before Gutenberg, most people installed Thrive Architect or Elementor to write their blog posts. This is because the classic editor was not simply good enough to make a blog post with a decent structure.
But now most new WordPress users are getting Gutenberg out of the box. It is good enough to write a blog with a decent structure.
Hence nowadays, most people are not buying Thrive Architect or even installing the free version of Elementor to post blogs, Gutenberg is good enough.
Gutenberg is definitely decreasing their sales, I hope it does not run them out of their business in the future!
